What is the mark of spiritual maturity? Here I'll attempt to qualify and quantify crudely the same. (This is still a work in progress. I thought it may be helpful in charting spiritual growth. Needless to say--or is it?--this is not a vacuous checklist. Each trait must be an integral part of one's being; i.e., sincere.)
Senior (6σ, relative to global population)
- Sapience of 70.
- Consistent practice of all spiritual disciplines.
- Knows the Bible by heart; of one mind with the living Word.
- Relationship with the Lord blurs the line of individuality between Spirit and spirit.
Adult (5σ)
- Sapience of at least 60.
- Frequent, regular practice of at least 85% of spiritual disciplines.
- Knows the Bible thoroughly; correctly applies Biblical doctrine to all significant moments of life.
- Relationship with the Lord is intimate, akin to Husband and wife.
Adolescent (4σ)
- Sapience of at least 50.
- Regular practice of at least 60% of spiritual disciplines.
- Knows all the Bible narratives; strives to live according to Biblical doctrine.
- Relationship with the Lord is akin to family, like child and Parent.
Child (3σ)
- Sapience of at least 40.
- Occasional or irregular practice of at least 35% and regular practice of at least 20% of spiritual disciplines.
- Actively reads and studies the Bible, learning its doctrines, applying them diligently if haphazardly.
- Relationship with the Lord is akin to a growing friendship, familiar and comfortable.
Toddler (2σ)
- Sapience of at least 30.
- Regular or irregular practice of at least 20% of spiritual disciplines.
- Occasionally reads portions of the Bible and/or attends Bible classes, but lasting application is only coincident with great conviction.
- Relationship with the Lord is comfortable even if only occasionally personal.
Infant
- Sapience below 30.
- Regular or irregular practice of 20% or fewer of spiritual disciplines.
- Knows the major Bible stories, but has little intuitive understanding in applying the Word.
- Relationship with the Lord is one primarily of gratitude--having been rescued from sin--or neediness, having learned He meets needs.
Spiritually Dead
- No relationship with the Lord.
