Anyone going to the SE Homeschool Expo in Cobb, coming up July 25-26? I want to go but don't want to go alone. There's at least one seminar I want to attend and will go alone if I have to just to get to it. Now that hubby isn't doing his race on that Saturday, maybe we'll go as a family on that day. We'll see.

I'd like to propose a new euphemism for public- and private-schoolers: aggregate-schoolers. While it should be immensely insulting to those who partake of such an inferior form of education, it's probably just subtle enough to escape such offense, especially among those generally less likely to perceive subtleties. » read more »

A California court has issued a ruling which effectively makes homeschooling in that state illegal. (Not surprisingly, neither the legislature nor any sort of popular sanction was involved. Such is "law" in this day and age.) In fact, the ruling is broad enough to affect charter schools and even study-at-home programs that are overseen by the public system. The case is headed to the state supreme court, so the ruling could be overturned, but that's only temporary. » read more »

Do you have an opportunity to rescue a child from slavery and torture? There is a modern culture not too far from here that practices child sacrifice. Innocent little children of most any age are handed over to brutal killers to be slowly tortured and eventually slain. Many are killed even before they've ever seen daylight. Those who survive are enslaved, usually for the rest of their lives. The legitimate authorities put enormous pressure upon parents to surrender their children for sacrifice. Often backed into corners with few or seemingly no options, parents give over their precious gifts to the authorities, who will then dispose of them. Many parents give in unwillingly, feeling trapped and threatened. Others have been so well conditioned that they gladly surrender their kids and go so far as to extol the virtues of child sacrifice--as if any amount of spin could justify it. The reason schools appear to be failing is because we're using the wrong measurements. They are not designed to educate at all. They are designed to institutionalize, brainwash, and enslave. Linda blogged about excellence a while ago. What I failed to mention was how excellence is punished in today's American society. (It may be elsewhere, too, but my experience is distinctly American.) Very few parents raise their children to be excellent. Even fewer demand it of themselves. Peers condemn excellence, both children and adults alike. » read more »

I've noticed a big difference between homeschool and public school. First of all, I'm homeschooled year-round. We can take breaks whenever we want to. Also, I don't go by my grade. I work at whatever level I am in that subject. I am also not kept in a classroom all day with no freedom. » read more »

There have been plenty of articles on WND, TuscanyCircle, and Vox's blog about this. (Here's the latest by Vox.) Germany is actively persecuting homeschoolers, even going so far as legally declaring those families who choose to leave Germany to protect their rights to homeschool as "kidnappers". In an age when the bad guy cannot be properly identified, individual rights are anathemas to the ever growing totalitarianism, and God's obedient are shunned and eventually hunted, you can be sure that not only will Germany be allowed to continue its immoral actions, but their Nazi philosophy will spread to the rest of Europe and then America.
